Attentive to history, because it has all the ingredients to seduce. In a way, it is still a fable of friendship and unexpected discoveries, only those involved are a man and his car. The first is a German businessman residing in Mallorca, and the second is an old but at the same time unpublished Loryc Torpedo. Do not the signature sound to them?
Devoted to classic cars, Charly Bosch seems intent on relaunching the glorious Loryc and proving that myths do not die. But something told him that his unknown new best friend must have a past of crap. For that reason, it investigated the origin of the old red-white devil and discovered a mine to a certain point ignored by History.
It seems to be the first Loryc that circulated in Mallorca in 1920. That same year, Rafael de Lacy and Antonio Ribas, associated with the engineer Alberto Ouvranrd, created LORYC, Lacy Oubrard, Ribas and Company. They produced 130 units. It was a real sports car, which reached 110 kms per hour. I arrived at Le Mans in 1922 and was the star of the II car show, where Alfonso XIII showed much interest in the model of the time.
A few years ago Charly acquired the Loryc Torpedo, a handcrafted craft that perfectly reflects the future of the island. His intention was not what we could expect in a Machiavellian and calculating German entrepreneur with an eye for business. His friend Loryc would not end his days as an object more hidden in a garage, nor even exposed in a German museum after the payment of a good sum. It was not a mere acquisition. The intention of the protagonist of the story was to use his new-old Loryc Torpedo for his daily use, and not only that: also to travel and discover new corners and experiences on the island of Mallorca.
The story was fraught with difficulties, like all good stories. And it is that the old engine of the Torpedo Loryc did not give for more. Not only had he lived too much, he was not created for the modern use we give to a car. It was necessary to renew or die, and what comes next was a rebirth. The owner acquired a new engine, an electric one, with all the most modern devices for the charge of batteries. And in a few days the first 1920s car adapted to the modern requirements of electric cars came out of the garage.
The Loryc responded wonderfully. Not only did it fit your new engine well, it was fun and safe to drive. The 13kW electric motor faced the curves and slopes with sportiness and unexpected energy. It was still a flagship sport. Not to mention the driving comfort: the silence provided by the new technology made it a clean vehicle, but also one that allowed its driver to enjoy the silence, the singing of the birds and the howling of the wind in the island sunsets.
It was the beginning of a great friendship. Since that day, the electric Loryc walks along the roads and streets of Mallorca, and has become an acquaintance for the inhabitants and other drivers of the place. But we are not just talking about extravagance, although this has helped make our story striking. The firm Loryc, symbol of the industrial past of the island, has recovered today with an experiment born of the sentiment and the true hobby. After all, here the most modern technology and the most traditional have given the hand for the pride of all motorists, and without major problems or obstacles.
As the announcement says, this is not the end but rather the beginning. The businessman secured the rights of the brand to resurrect the car manufacturer Loryc Mallorca with the aim of creating a light and agile electric car, designed according to handcrafted criteria of the 1920s but with the virtues of a car of the future. Pero algo le decía que su desconocido nuevo mejor amigo debía tener un pasado de órdago. Por eso, investigó la procedencia del vetusto diablo rojiblanco y descubrió una mina hasta cierto punto ignorada por la Historia.

Llego a participar en Le Mans en 1922 y fue la estrella del II salón de automóvil, donde Alfonso XIII demostró mucho interés por el modelo de la época.
Hace unos años Charly adquirió el Loryc Torpedo, un vehículo hecho a mano de manera artesanal y que refleja perfectamente el devenir de la isla. Su intención no era la que podríamos esperar en un maquiavélico y calculador empresario germano con ojo para los negocios. Su amigo Loryc no acabaría sus días como un objeto más escondido en algún garaje, ni siquiera expuesto en un museo alemán tras el pago de una buena suma. No era una mera adquisición. La intención del protagonista de la historia era emplear su nuevo-viejo Loryc Torpedo para su uso diario, y no sólo eso: también para viajar y descubrir nuevos rincones y experiencias en la isla de Mallorca.
El relato estuvo cargado de dificultades, como todas las buenas historias. Y es que el viejo motor del Loryc Torpedo no daba para más. No sólo había vivido demasiado, sino que no fue creado para el uso moderno que damos a un automóvil. Era necesario renovarse o morir, y lo que viene a continuación fue un renacimiento. El dueño adquirió un nuevo motor, uno eléctrico, con todos los dispositivos más modernos para la carga de baterías. Y en unos pocos días el primer automóvil de 1920 adaptado a los modernos requerimientos de los coches eléctricos salía del garaje.
El Loryc respondió a las mil maravillas. No sólo adaptaba bien a su nuevo motor, sino que era divertido y seguro de conducir. El motor eléctrico de 13kW hacía frente a las curvas y cuestas con deportividad y una energía inesperada. Seguía siendo un deportivo de bandera. Por no hablar del confort de marcha: el silencio que proporciona la nueva tecnología lo convertía en un vehículo limpio, pero también en uno que permitía a su conductor disfrutar del silencio, del cantar de los pájaros y del ulular del viento en los atardeceres isleños.
Fue el comienzo de una gran amistad. Desde ese día, el Loryc eléctrico pasea por las carreteras y calles de Mallorca, y se ha vuelto a convertir en un conocido para los habitantes y demás conductores del lugar. Pero no hablamos sólo de extravagancia, aunque esto haya ayudado a convertir nuestra historia en algo llamativo. La firma Loryc, símbolo del pasado industrial de la isla, ha recobrado actualidad con un experimento nacido del sentimiento y la verdadera afición. Al fin y al cabo, aquí la tecnología más moderna y la más tradicional se han dado la mano para orgullo de todos los automovilistas, y sin mayores problemas u obstáculos.
Como dice el anuncio, esto no es el final sino más bien el principio. El empresario se aseguró los derechos de la marca para resucitar al fabricante de automóviles Loryc Mallorca con el objetivo de crear un coche eléctrico ligero y ágil, diseñado según criterios artesanales propios de la década de 1920 pero con las virtudes de un coche del futuro. ¿Quién da más?
