Established in 1996 by Jonathan H. Syrett, Hamilton Connections S.L. was originally called Hamilton Marine S.L., and was renamed a few years ago to when it became involved in non-yachting related business.
Jonathan was responsible for the Camper & Nicholsons International brokerage, new construction and charter business in Spain under a franchise type agreement. This was the only such arrangement during this time and it was sold back to CNI in 2014 after which Jonathan became the General Manager for three years. He was the Senior Sales Broker in Spain and worked with, or for, the company from 1985 until 2018, 33 years!
In 2003 the company, representing CNI, became a substantial shareholder in Yacht and Jet Services S.L., one of only two companies responsible for the Valencia Superyacht Marina during the 2007 America’s Cup. YJS managed the marina and the superyacht berthing packages for the central T quay, providing services to superyachts leading up to and during, the America’s Cup Challenge.
Hamilton Connections, again representing CNI, was one of the founding members of AEGY, the Spanish Large Yacht Association in 2006. Jonathan Syrett served as vice-president for over nine years. AEGY is concerned with all matters relating to yachts over 24 metres, and was instrumental in persuading the Spanish authorities to extend the IEDMT “matriculation tax” exemption to all commercial yachts wanting to charter in Spain in 2014, thus boosting the Spanish and Balearic charter market with substantial and demonstrable increases in VAT, other taxes and overall income from charterers and the greater presence of yachts in Spanish waters.
An important milestone in the world of superyachting in Spain during the time that Jonathan was actively involved in AEGY was the turnaround of the Palma Boat Show and the creation of the Palma Superyacht Show which BYBA, The Balearic Yacht Brokers Association, has turned into a highly successful international event in just a few years.
Hamilton Connections and CNI played a major role in helping the Spanish superyacht building industry to get off the ground by selling, assisting in the construction, and marketing several superyachts built in Galicia including the 59 metre Metalships MAYBE, the largest megayacht designed and built in Spain.
Hamilton Marine was reintroduced as a commercial name in 2018 as a yachting and brokerage consultancy business serving yacht owners, companies and institutions.
Hamilton Connections founded the Connecting-Mallorca.com website in March 2015. It is an on-line website directory with yachting and other local calendars. It has information about the island and what’s on for residents and visitors. It is mostly in English and easy to use a an aide-memoire. The calendars section can also be find under www.yachting-calendars.com which is also linked to THE ISLANDER magazine.
