On the 16th July is the festival of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of sailors. This festival was promoted by the Majorcan admiral Antoni Barceló Pont de la Terra in the eighteenth century. Many coastal towns in Spain celebrate this day with the fishing boats setting sail at dusk adorned with flowers.
This festival is celebrated in Cala Bona, Cala Figuera, Cala Rajada, Coll d’en Rabassa, Port Andratx, Puerto Pollensa, sa Ràpita,), Colom and Porto Cristo.
